Garmin updated its smartwatch lineup earlier this month at CES 2022 with the Venu 2 Plus. Just a few weeks later, the company has now launched the Fenix 7 series of rugged multisport smartwatches.
As with Garmin’s best smartwatches, the new model is built with solid reliability. These watches use premium materials such as titanium and sapphire and are available in three different sizes. One of the biggest upgrades that the Fenix 7 series brings is a new touchscreen design. However, Garmin isn’t getting rid of the buttons. The touchscreen interface is just a complement to the 5-button interface. There are also new protective button guards and metal reinforced lugs.
In addition to adding a touchscreen, Garmin also introduced a hands-free multi-LED flashlight for the Fenix 7 series. Not only does it help adventurers camp out in the dark, it also “matches the runner’s rhythm” when strobe mode is enabled — alternating between white and red.
On the software side, the big highlight is the new real-time endurance tool, which lets athletes track their exercise levels. There’s also a new Visual Race Predictor feature, which provides race estimates based on your running history and overall fitness.
As for battery life, Garmin claims the solar-powered Fenix 7X model can last up to five weeks on a single charge in smartwatch mode and up to five days in GPS mode. This is made possible thanks to the larger solar surface area on the new watch.
The Fenix 7 series is available in 7S, 7 and 7X models with dimensions of 42, 47 and 51mm respectively. All three models are now available for purchase in the US from Garmin’s official website. Fenix 7S and 7 models start at $700, while the 7X model goes up to $1,000.
