Google launches second-gen Nest Hub without header feature in India

by GizmoShot | Published On January 12, 2022

Pays about the same but features less.

what you need to know

  • Nearly a year after announcing its release in the US, Google has finally launched the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) in India.
  • The device appears to be missing the Soli radar feature found in the US model.
  • Indian buyers can buy the Nest Mini for an additional Rs 1.

Google’s Nest Hub (2nd Gen) smart display has finally made its way to the Indian market. However, it doesn’t appear to include the headline Soli radar feature, making it one of the best smart displays on the market.

Launching in the US in March 2021, the Next Hub (Gen 2) features the same Soli radar technology as the Pixel 4. This enables gesture controls and a unique sleep tracking feature to help users monitor all aspects of sleep.

Google didn’t immediately respond to our request for comment, but a company representative explained the omission to Android Authority:

Some key headline features like sleep sensing don’t work in the device (sic) because it’s based on the same Soli radar technology used in the Pixel 4. Not yet approved for use in India.

This makes a lot of sense, considering the Pixel 4 didn’t launch in India as a result. This time, however, Google still managed to bring the display to market. However, at Rs 7,999, you’re paying about the same for a device that lacks the headline feature.

That said, Indian buyers can buy the Nest Mini speaker for an additional Rs 1 until January 26. Plus, you still get a pretty decent smart speaker and digital photo frame, and you can control the smart home products in your home. It’s entirely up to you whether you’re willing to shell out for less features.

Nest Hub (Gen 2) is available in India via Flipkart, Tata Cliq and Reliance Digital.

Smart home control at your fingertips

Google’s second-generation Nest Hub smart display features a 7-inch display and a far-field microphone that lets you easily control your smart home products, allowing Google Assistant to hear you from across the room. Plus, its upgraded speakers deliver 50 percent more bass when playing your favorite tunes.
