Google Maps bug on Android Auto caused navigation crash for some users

by GizmoShot | Published On December 27, 2021

Fortunately, this problem does not seem to be widespread.

What you need to know

  • Due to a bug, Google Maps apparently crashed on Android Auto.
  • The navigation interface seems to restart every 5 or 10 minutes.
  • Google has not yet acknowledged this problem.

Google Maps on Android Auto is designed to provide you with uninterrupted road guidance without you having to touch the screen, but a new bug seems to prevent some users from having a seamless experience with the app.

As discovered by Autoevolution, the app is constantly refreshed for many users in navigation mode. According to reports, this happens every 5 to 10 minutes for no apparent reason.

This problem seems to occur regardless of which Android phone is used. Some people affected by this issue complained on Google’s forum that they own Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Google Pixel 3 XL. The owner of Vivo X70 Pro even caught this problem in action.

According to forum comments, this issue affects wired and wireless Android Auto connections. However, based on the number of complaints in the forum, the scope of the error appears to be limited. This means that it is not as common as we feared.

Unfortunately, for people who have encountered this problem, a solution cannot be found at this time, and Google has not yet acknowledged the error. This means that the usual solutions, such as resetting the phone or clearing the cache, do not seem to solve the problem.

It is not clear how many people are affected by the issue. Android Central has contacted Google to make a statement and we will update this post as soon as we receive a response.
