It’s official: OPPO’s next Android flagship will feature a Hasselblad camera

by GizmoShot | Published On February 15, 2022

OPPO will work with Hasselblad to create a “new benchmark” in smartphone color science.

What you need to know

  • OPPO has partnered with Hasselblad to jointly develop camera technology for the Find series of phones.
  • The company’s upcoming Find X-series flagships will be the first to use Hasselblad camera technology.
  • OnePlus, now a sub-brand of OPPO, formed a similar partnership with Hasselblad last year.

Last year, popular smartphone maker OnePlus partnered with high-end camera brand Hasselblad to bring its consumers a superior mobile photography experience. Now, OPPO has announced a three-year partnership with Hasselblad to “co-develop industry-leading camera technology” for its flagship Find series phones.

OPPO Chief Product Officer Pete Lau said in a statement:

Following the successful collaboration between OnePlus and Hasselblad over the past year, we are delighted to see the partnership enter a new stage of development, giving more users around the world the opportunity to enjoy Hasselblad’s legendary mobile imaging experience.

OPPO hopes the partnership with Hasselblad will allow it to set “a new benchmark in smartphone color science” and deliver consistent color performance across all of its phones.

This news comes as no surprise, as the recently leaked real-world images of the upcoming OPPO Find X5 Pro show a Hasselblad-branded triple-camera setup. OPPO and OnePlus have also combined their R&D resources to “maximize efficiency,” so it’s no surprise that their 2022 flagships will have a lot in common.

OPPO has confirmed that the upcoming Find X5 series will be the first to offer a “Hasselphone camera” experience. The Find X series, which will challenge Samsung’s best Android phones, will be released later this quarter.

Rumors have it that the Find X5 Pro will use the same 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor as its predecessor, along with a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 13MP telephoto lens with 5x hybrid zoom. Other rumored phone specs include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 5,000mAh battery, 80W wired charging, IP68 water resistance, and a 6.7-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED screen.
