Latest Pixel 6 update blocks Android 12L beta installation

by GizmoShot | Published On February 24, 2022

Last week’s Pixel 6 and 6 Pro update prevented users from downloading the Android 12L beta.

what you need to know

  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro devices can’t download the Android 12L beta after installing last week’s software update.
  • Google will release the fourth Android 12L beta in March to address the Pixel 6’s exclusions.
  • Android 12L is scheduled to be officially released in early 2022.

Google rolled out a new software patch for its Pixel 6 and 6 Pro last week, and users of fully updated devices reported problems signing up for the latest Android 12L beta. However, Google plans to address affected devices in another Android 12L update in March.

A small, unexpected software update released last week for Pixel 6 devices offered few details beyond fixing critical bugs and improving the device’s performance and stability. It appears that some of the updates disabled Pixel 6 devices if they weren’t already enrolled in the Android 12L beta.

First seen on 9to5Google, fully updated Pixel 6 series owners are not receiving an OTA update to Android 12L after enrolling their devices. Although the registration process is complete and the device is eligible to receive the update – the download did not arrive. According to Google, this is intentional.

“If you registered a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro on the latest February version SQ1D.220205.004, you will not receive the 12L Beta 3 update, but will receive the next upcoming beta version in March You keep your device registered.”

According to Google via Reddit

As Android 12L rolls out its fourth beta next month, it will rival Google’s Android 13, which is already in preview. We’ll have to wait and see how these two software releases progress in the future, and how Google will try to reduce the headaches current owners of one of Android’s best smartphones like the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are experiencing.
