After launching the Motorola X30 last year, we’re still waiting for the company’s global flagship launch. While we wait, however, new information points to interesting new accessories coming to the rumored Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.
According to XDA-Developers, Motorola is planning to launch a new stylus and case for its upcoming flagship. Likely to be called the “Motorola Smart Stylus,” it will be the most advanced stylus the company has ever released with a phone, and XDA’s sources call it “the next generation.” From XDA’s description, it’s going to be designed to be more sturdy than the stylus that comes with phones like the Moto G Stylus 5G.
According to XDA, the stylus will support Bluetooth connectivity, in-air gestures and wireless charging. Once connected to the phone, a small bubble will appear showing the status of the stylus and available apps, just like Samsung has implemented on its best Android phones that support stylus input. Beyond that, it’s unclear what features it will have, but so far it looks and sounds a lot like the S Pen Pro Samsung released for last year’s flagships like the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Additionally, Motorola is reportedly planning to launch a folio case for the Edge 30 Ultra. The front of the case is designed to show just a single display for things like notifications and responding to calls.
Like the S21 Ultra, the folio case will also be used to house the Smart Stylus, thanks to a pouch at the rear. This seems a little awkward, and it’s unclear if it will be held magnetically or otherwise. That said, the folio box will include an interesting display design.
It’s unclear when Motorola plans to launch these accessories, although it seems likely that they will arrive when the Edge 30 Ultra launches globally. If so, this would make an interesting case for the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is expected to feature a built-in stylus like the Galaxy Note 20.
