what you need to know

  • Key specs of future Motorola smartphones have leaked.
  • It could be a new flagship device with crazy specs like a 200MP camera, 125W fast charging support, and a next-gen Snapdragon 8 chipset.
  • Codenamed Motorola “Frontier”, the device bears some resemblance to the Motorola Edge X30.

Motorola’s past smartphones have little to write home about before the flagship Motorola Edge+ is released in early 2020. The company may step up its flagship efforts with a futuristic device that appears to have insane specs and internals.

According to German site TechnikNews, Motorola is already working on a next-generation flagship device that looks like a serious challenger to the best Android phone this year. Codenamed “Frontier”, the upcoming smartphone is said to feature a 200MP primary sensor made by Samsung.

Motorola was rumored to be the first to use Samsung’s massive camera sensor late last year, so the new leak isn’t entirely surprising. Rounding out the triple rear camera setup could be Sony’s 50MP ultra-wide camera and 12MP telephoto sensor. On the front, we might see the same 60MP sensor as the Motorola Edge X30.

While the leak leaves out details about the phone’s battery, it claims to support 125W wired charging and 50W wireless charging like the OnePlus 9 Pro. The phone is also likely to run Android 12 out of the box and feature a 6.67-inch FullHD+ OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate.

The phone is speculated to be powered by the Snapdragon SM8475 SoC, an unannounced flagship chipset that is believed to succeed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the future. It will most likely come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

It may take a while for this processor to hit the market, especially since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is still only available on a handful of smartphones after its debut a few months ago.

This means that powerful smartphones may not be available to consumers anytime soon. But, at the very least, we can expect to see a flagship Motorola phone that looks powerful on paper.
