YouTube on Android used to have a similar button, but it quietly disappeared.
what you need to know
- YouTube seems to be working on a dedicated button to play songs directly in YouTube Music.
- This feature is currently hidden under the settings menu of the video sharing platform.
- When clicked, a dedicated button may open the associated soundtrack in YouTube Music.
YouTube used to have an option that allowed users to play songs directly in YouTube Music, making it easier to switch between these apps. However, it was removed at some point in the past, but now the video-sharing platform appears to be bringing back the old feature.
According to a teardown by XDA Developers, the latest version of YouTube for Android includes a string of code that indicates a dedicated button to launch a song in YouTube Music is in the works. When tapped, the button will open the same soundtrack in one of the best music streaming services.
If this feature sounds familiar to you, that’s because YouTube currently hides a “Use YouTube Music Listening” option under its settings menu. When you select this option, YouTube Music will automatically open the song you are currently listening to. However, playback starts from the beginning, not where you left off.
It’s unclear where the dedicated button will appear, but it’s likely somewhere below the video player. This makes the process of switching between the two apps more seamless than the current interface, which requires more clicking.
It’s also still unknown when the Google-owned service will roll out new features. It just got a new makeover, allowing you to like videos, add to playlists, or leave comments without leaving the full-screen experience.
